The Exercise Space

Shannon Van OppenBack in 1982, when she was just 20 years old Shannon Van Oppen watched the Iron Man on TV and decided then and there, someday, she would compete in a triathlon. The next couple decades, life took over …marriage, kids, illness, weight gain etc. I met Shannon back in the fall of 2007 when competing in a triathlon was still a dream… After six months of training with me at The Exercise Space, it is now becoming a reality. Shannon has worked extremely hard in the past six months, shedding 35lbs, 22lbs of which were pure fat. Shannon likes to equate the fat loss to sticks of butter – she has currently lost a total of 140 sticks of butter! As well, she is up to run/walk intervals of 4 miles, swimming 1/2 mile like it is nothing, and biking 6 miles at a time! Her plantar fasciitis has completely disappeared, her core is amazingly stable and strong, and she is enjoying seeing her muscles develop! Shannon is aiming for The Coeur d’Alene Triathlon on August 10th in Idaho. I will be participating with her as she turns her dream into a reality by completing a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, and then a 10km run.
